Opinion Piece on Period. End Of Sentence-A Netflix Documentary

Period, The end of sentence is an utterly honest account of the stigmas and myths which exist in the name of menstruation and how even in the 21 st century the world isn’t as progressive as it seems and how women in India still live under clouds of patriarchy, ignorance and lack of education. The film is set in Hapur only 60 Km from Delhi, India. The stark difference in the places is evident as the film progresses be it in the lifestyle or in the mindset. The film starts of as and when two young girls are asked about periods and they shy away in hesitation. When older women are asked, they have no answer either. It is frightening acknowledging how little they know. The men are just as bad if not worse. Lack of awareness, poor social conditions and a lot of storytelling based on myths and lies force women to consider menstruation as dirty. Women consider it as a hindrance to their lives and a cause for inferiority. The fact that no one talks about it makes it worse. They don...

NIFT Bangalore’s Annual Fashion Show

NIFT Bengaluru held its annual Fest Spectrum on the 14 th and 15 th of this month. The theme for this year’s fest was “ORENDA” which very simply means invisible magic power that pervades all natural objects as a spiritual energy. The fest was held in the college campus which was decorated with dream catchers and lanterns specifically designed for the event. Various stalls were set up by the students selling handmade items. The whole atmosphere was filled with a fun and vibrant energy. One of the most awaited events was the Spectrum Fashion Show where students of all disciplines participated to showcase their talents as a designer. The event was spectacular in terms of the new designs which came through. There were some really awe inspiring collections. Students experimented with various textures, motifs, embroideries and silhouettes to create ensembles never seen before. What really stood out was a collection which was a juxtaposition of leather and lace, two very contras...

The Impact of Corona Virus on the Fashion Industry

The world has been on edge since news of the virus’ outbreak began in late January in Wuhan City in the Hubei Province of China. The virus has quickly spread globally, with cases popping up in roughly 50 countries, including the U.S., the U.K., Italy, Japan, Egypt and Iran, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The coronavirus is increasingly having a negative impact on the fashion industry specifically, especially the fall 2020 fashion month season. Reports of the coronavirus hitting Italy coincided with the end of Milan Fashion Week, leading to the cancellation of a number of runway shows and events. This was clearly evident when  no longer be hosting a public runway show  in Milan for  his fall 2020 collection,  rather the show was filmed in an empty theater and posted on the brand’s web site and social media platforms. Other luxury brands like Gucci, Chanel, Prada and Burberry also followed suit by postponing thei...
